Kent County Council Consultation

Keep Maidstone Moving

The Society's response to an application that will affect traffic flows

You can have your say on highway improvements which aim to reduce congestion, travel times and pollution across Maidstone.

KCC, as Highway Authority, launched a consultation at the end of January on proposals which are intended to “reduce congestion, travel times and pollution across Maidstone”.

They are endeavouring to spend central government funds originally provided from the Local Growth Fund. In realty they are running out of time to spend that money so they are keen to start work as soon as possible.

The proposed junction improvements, and the proposed start dates, are located as follows:

a. A20 Coldharbour Roundabout (Spring 2020)

b. A229 Loose Corridor (Summer 2020) :

i.    Armstrong Road junction with Park Way (including Sheal’s Crescent)
ii.   The Wheatsheaf
iii.  Cripple Street junction with Boughton Lane

c. A20 Ashford Road junction with Willington Street (Early 2021)

d. A274 Sutton Road junction with Willington Street (Spring 2022)

Although journeys made by members of the Society will no doubt be affected by all of the proposals, the one on Ashford Road will be of most interest.

The consultation events have already taken place, but at those it became apparent that the designs are subject to review and that there are some matters which are yet to be resolved.

The consultation period ends on Wednesday 11 March, so we would urge you to examine the published documents and to make your views known.
