Constructed on land forming part of the Kent Medical Campus the hospital opened in October 2018 as a 65 bed mental health facility for adults.
An outline planning application to develop the campus was submitted in July 2013 and approved in April 2014, with the hospital being located on area "g".
Despite concerns that the outline approval did not allow for a mental health facility it was determined that such use was acceptable.
An application for the approval of reserved matters was submitted in January 2016 and approved in April 2016.
There is no access to the hospital from Bearsted Road.
